WASHINGTON, DC — The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), recognized as the nation’s sole multi-issue advocacy organization operating at the vital intersection of child well-being and racial justice, has officially announced the appointment of Nick Vucic to its esteemed National Leadership Team.
In his new role, Vucic will serve as the National Director of Public Affairs for the organization. He will take the helm of enterprise-wide efforts spanning public policy, legislative advocacy, strategic communications, and narrative building. Through these pillars, Vucic will work to advance CDF’s overarching mission and vision, driving initiatives designed to champion the rights and futures of children and young people across the United States.
Vucic brings to the organization an extensive background in public service and government relations. Most recently, he served as the Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families. Within that critical federal agency role, he spearheaded congressional engagement and directed regulatory strategies for national programs dedicated to supporting children, families, and vulnerable communities.
His distinguished career in public administration also includes holding leadership positions at the White House Office of Management and Budget, the wider U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and several prominent national advocacy organizations. Throughout these tenures, Vucic worked tirelessly to champion evidence-based policy and drive high-impact public initiatives aimed at improving social welfare systems.
Within the Children’s Defense Fund, Vucic will work in close collaboration with CDF Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer Brittany Packnett Cunningham. According to Packnett Cunningham, Vucic’s addition to the leadership team is a pivotal step forward as the organization pursues its long-term objective of ensuring that all children and young people in America have the support and resources they need to thrive.

Vucic’s academic background reflects a lifelong dedication to public service and policy analysis. He holds a Master of Arts in Social and Public Policy from Duquesne University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Richmond. Furthermore, he has continued his professional development through specialized executive education programs at prestigious academic institutions, including Harvard Kennedy School, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Georgetown University.
